For whatever reason it seems like certain users (usergroups?) can't see the like button. Is there an explanation to that?

Hi,
Have you checked the user group settings? The default install only enables the ability to like posts for members, moderators and administrators. If you have other uaergroups, you'll have to make sure the feature is enabled for them in ACP > Users & Groups > Groups > *YOUR USERGROUP* > Like System.
