Do i need to close the board in order to perform a back up ?

I am trying to perform a back up and the download just stops downloading randomly (at 30mb, 500mb just random everytime).

I am thinking that a post is made on the forum so the download stops . So do i need to close the board , anyone got any idea whats happening?

How big is your site?

Maybe easier to perform a mysqldump -u *username* -p <databasename>...
