4. you can see Time Between Registrations

set to 0


5. Minimum Registration Time


set the also 0

So - you get spammers because you set your minimum registration time to zero. Brilliant.

This is a very, very improper way to solve the problem and defeats important antispam countermeasures of MyBB 1.8. Allowing users to register accounts infinitely quickly does not actually solve the problem. There is no reason the time between registration setting should reasonably cause problems for an end user.

The second setting should just be lowered slightly, such as to 10 (default is 15, if I'm not mistaken), instead of fully disabled. Almost all users should end up taking 10 seconds to fill out the registration form.

As Ben said, this only allows for spammers to register infinitely faster and more easily.

Then mention that bug in the original post instead of implying that it's a "fix" that everyone should make, because it's not.

To solve the problem correctly you should update your member_register template to 1.8's code or just use a 1.8 compatible theme.
