Had 1.6.17 installed - ran upgrade to 1.8 and had lots problems - css appeared to be badly messed up and forum was unusable.

I restored the from from backup files - back to 1.6.17
Dropped the old database tables and uploaded the back up database files.

Forum looks okay: http://www.eaglecapowners.com/owners/

Currently, I can login to the ACP - I can see the Dashboard.
But clicking a link in ACP produces "Invalid Administration Session"  "Please enter your username and password to continue"

And it won't accept my username and password!
I'm effectively locked out.

How to fix?

A few hours later and its now working okay.
It must have been something stuck in cache.

You need a 1.8 theme. 1.6 themes WILL break with the template changes of 1.8.
