Well since no one has ever had this problem before... Ever I'm hard pressed to 'fix' it if vBulletin has just thrown in a work around because you cannot fix your server yourself.

Well, not for me to explain you how good product should work, i hope you understand this fully...
Grab this: http://abandonbeta.com/Mini-Lighttpd.rar and try to find what causes the problem and then we all try to find a solution for myBB so it can work even in such environment...

1.2.7 is said to be a bug fix.
There is no 1.3, it will go straight to 1.4 - explained here.
