Hmm you may be right. The color doesn't seem as bright in the sidebar because of how dark the background is. I will experiment with it a little bit, thanks!

just a ideia , but if you or a user wants like a dropdown menu you could set the menu like accordion having sub-menus
While you are using font-awesome, why not go fully image-less.
