I am presently using smtp email using Google Apps supported email address. For some reasons the notifications have only worked once

I cannot understand if there is something that i am doing wrong. I do not get any error messages either.
I want to be able to receive and send messages as email to users and myself for all notifications.
As an admin i do not get any emails for new users registered and neither are they getting any emails for confirmation of account.
Can someone please help.
