I am using the current version - 1.8.6
I upgraded a few months ago.

When trying to post a new thread, the text box where I write the message is corrupt with formatting commands.

A screenshot is attached.

One of my users tried 2 different computers and 3 different browsers with same results.

what is your forum url ?
change editor style of the theme you are using and check the editor

admin panel >> Templates & Style >> themes >> [your theme] >> scroll down for theme properties >> editor style

I changed Editor style to "default" from "modern" and that fixed it.
