I am looking for a shoutbox that works for MyBB 1.8 and that has an option to make it visible for staff only. If you know one, please post a link here.

well both inferno shoutbox and MyShoutbox have that feature. i don't know about the others shouts, since i only used those 2.

You could just use template conditionals. but most shoutbox plugins allow you to select which groups can see/use the shoutbox.
