Hello, I would like to change " RE: " to something else, or maybe remove them entirely. Its not shown in messages but when people get alerts for their message, thread name is shown with " RE : "
How can I change that?
showthread_quickreply template (in showthread templates)
find <input type="hidden" name="subject" value="RE: {$reply_subject}" /> & remove RE:
you can do similar change in private_quickreply template (in Private Messaging Templates)
Thank you, but I am still seeing RE: when I try to send a message, those changes apply only to Quick replies I assume.
Any ideas on how to get rid of this RE :

so I should go to private.php and remove that part? Making changes on php files are safe?
You could remove both lines because all they're doing is prepending "Re: " to the $subject variable.
