Hey guys, i want to change the colour of the post/thread background and also the signature section below it so that they stand out a bit more.

How do i go about this please.

inspect element on the place you want to change something
then edit the appropriate style-sheet

I'm confused sorry.

Where would I find the correct place for the background colour of this post area which is white on this skin/theme?

you need to add the background property for .post in global.css of your theme... something like below... change the color code to your liking...

.post {
background: #A1A1A1;
}

PS; the class name and css file may be different on some custom themes...
