I'm brand new to MyBB and have some questions.
Maybe there's an introductory video or page available somewhere.
I want to have my forum be mobile responsive. Is it mobile responsive right off the install or do I need to install a special mobile responsive theme?
Also I'm looking for any plugins that will enhance user participation in the forum. In other words, encourage them to want to actively participate. I see you have a reputation feature. So any features like that I'd be interested in learning more about.

The Go Mobile theme is actually a plugin.

You can get it from here -
http://community.mybb.com/thread-166664.html and install it like this
Upload up the files on their spcified folders
go to configuration ----->plugins --->and select install and activate.

Most of responsive theme installation is very simple, you just have to install like normal theme and it will be done.
Also you can always use GoMobile plugin and that can make your website responsive.
