I'm currently using 1.8 as it's the latest, when 2.0 will be out could we upgrade our current 1.8 forums to that? Will there be software for it, or just download backup and upload it?

I am not sure how it will be right now. But there will surely be a guide ( I hope ) explaining users on how to upgrade to 2.0.

of course, there will be a upgrading method from MyBB 1.8.x to MyBB 2.0. however can't say the exact procedure at present.
