I have side box by Nayar and i'm wondering if there is a way to change the number of recent threads from 10 to 5 and i also want the sidebox to be showed in posts
which version of MyBB you are using & what is your form url ?

IIRC, Nayar's sidebox plugin uses latest threads box from the
portal. so check in
portal settings
admin panel >>
configuration (
settings) >>
Portal settings -->
Number of latest discussions to show
--> put 5 &
save portal settings
to get the sidebox on the posts page, you have to add showthread related
hook in the plugin
& the
plugin's variable on
showthread template (note: I have not checked the plugin code)

Nayar's sideboxes plugin was actually coded for an older version of MyBB ; unable to recall its settings.
