Of course it will be possible.

MyBB wouldn't abandon their complete userbase...

Okay, as I know sometimes a database re-write is required and makes it nearly impossible to upgrade without a clean installation of a new database.

We don't rewrite the database, we modify some portions of it or add tables and rewrite code.

Any completely everything is upgradeable - it just has to be done right.

I think XennoBB would be non-upgradable sometimes.

I hated that system.

Just make sure you back up everything beforehand in case something bad happens.
