How can I stop guess from viewing user profile, member list etc

You can set permissions in ACP or you can install PHP conditionals (plugin).

Where in asmin cp do I set them

I am just looking where - I asked the same question here wrt memberlist, somebody gave me the answer and now i forget where

OK, go to ACP - users & groups. Then click on groups in the left pane. Next to guests you will see options. Click on edit group. Click on the tab that says forum and posts. From there you will see a whole lot of options which you can restrict incl viewing user profiles.
