Just replace the two changed templates with the new ones. You find the html code of the new templates in the XML data when you open it with an editor! (the quickedit template is now the same like the default one, so you can make "Revert to Orginal" there.)

In the current download I don't see the 'post reply' or 'new post' buttons. Is something missing from the new upgrade?

Where you dont see the buttons? remember, there are like in the vbulletin on the left site and the "new thread" button is missing in the threadview. If you dont see any button, please post your showthread or showforum template here

When i upload the class_templates.php and functions.php - i get this error

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: generate_post_check() in /home/www/{my forums}/global.php on line 46

It only happens when i add the inc files that come with this theme though. When i remove them and replace with the original, the board works fine - but the theme remains bugged.

Yes i plan to convert this theme to 1.4.
