you can get a free MyBB forum at IcyBoards, CreateMyBB .. etc
You can even install the forum on any hosting.

MyBB 1.8 and the Merge System 1.8 have a few minimum system requirements:
  • PHP >= 5.2

Though most hosting providers should offer those. If specifically a Linux provider doesn't, it was about time to find a new provider anyways Smile.

If a hosting company was still offering PHP 5.2 by default I'd be looking at a new provider.
