Does anybody have any tricks to get more discussion and more members to participate? And please don't advise to start a forum which actually is interesting enough

There is a clear place for my forum, but the traffic has been a disapointment. The few members don't participate very much, so basically the topics are supported quite heavily by me.

How long does it usually take to get solid member base and good discussion going from your experience? What can I do to grow?

Depends on what kind of forum you have.

My forum concerns quite a small group of people, the issue is new and the discussion is in the native language of a small country.

I haven't spent any money on marketing, which might be one part of the problem. Also the target group consists of people all age, and maybe older folks don't use the web that much. Difficult...

Pay them - Joking

Start some contest. Always keep competing and let them keep competing with themselves.

Become an active part of your forum itself.

Maybe get some of your friends interested and active
