You still have to download and upload the emoji images. Also, you'll inevitably lose quality as twemoji provides SVG support. I would rather load them with JavaScript...
If you use the 72x72 PNGs they should look alright scaled down I think.

I used 16x16
They worked for me, but a bit smaller than that of the default ones !
Not for mobile devices though, especially retina-enabled ones.
Is there any way to make simileys seen in tabs? I added new smileys un der its folder but this time it is not easy to find favorite ones for users
