what's the simplest way to create an archive ( to archive no longer current threads ) so that it can be used as needed by the users?

I just created a Sub Forum to my Announcements board titled archives and move them there as and when needed.
I also lock them so no one can post in them, they are then there for reference only.
Simplest way I've found and it keeps them there for SEO reasons too.
But if you have a lot of threads you want to archive you may need a plugin to do it for you., but I don't know of one.

settings of the forum which is meant for archive and
un-select forum is open &
save the forum settings

topics moved to that archive forum (which was set as
Not Open) will not have posting facility
