I went looking for some new Themes for v1.2.7 and see a message that none exist as of yet? Is that still valid?

There are many themes available for the current version. Here are some places you might find some:

http://www.mybbcentral.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=7

Most themes will work no matter what version of MyBB 1.2.x you are running, have a look at http://mods.mybboard.net/themes.php?vid=9 and http://community.mybboard.net/forumdisplay.php?fid=10 for themes.
