Hello,

Does anyone know off any recent posts on the sidebar plugins, which are compatible with my bb 1.8.7?

A lot of times plugins for 1.6 works....you just have to change a single compatibility line to include 1.8 if you get its incompatible with 1.8.7 in the admin panel for install, etc. I ahve done this with quit a bit pf mods...but not this specific one. Sometimes they work, sometimes they dont. 

Have you tried installing any these plugins and see if they work? Such as...
