I wonder if there is a way to mark as new -> posts that were edited.
The problem is that after editing a post it does not stand out in any way in the thread. The only thing that can suggest that post has some new information is date. But you have to be very patient to catch the difference.
Is there any patch for this?
Not by default. You'd need a code modification for that.
You can probably changed the "edited by" or "last edit" tag with a more pronounced color like red.
You could always Sticky the threads if your afraid that if others reply to other threads and the thread you want at the top moves to the bottom.

How does myBB handle marking post as new? Is there a record in database for that? And which function are responsible for writing the posts into db?

Posts are by default marked as new unless it's past the cut off date or its been logged as read in the mybb_threadsread table. MyBB 1.4 will feature a completely redone Marking system to fix some bugs present with the current system.

It's been on the confirmed features for 1.4 wiki list for a while; You didn't notice it?

Even though the post marking system is revised, I don't think "mark as new -> posts that were edited" has been implemented, so you'll probably still need a plugin/mod to do this.
