Have you look through all plugins regarding checking IP addresses or multiple account detection? By default, moderators can search IP addresses of all posts you can trace. You can even trace ip addresses of all posts. A MyBB staff can help you further on exactly what you need. I am just suggesting what you can use for the purpose you are stating.

Mods should see "IP Address: Logged" bottom left on posts click that and you will see the IP.
Then check it against places like:
http://mxtoolbox.com/blacklists.aspx
http://www.dnsbl.info/dnsbl-database-check.php
http://www.projecthoneypot.org/search_ip.php
You may also like to use the "Email admin about new members" plugin and get that to send the IP's to your Mods email.
