I am currently attempting to update my forums. It is asking me to login and when I put my login information in and press login it just clears the fields, it doesn't say wrong password or invalid user...
try clearing your browser cookies ( link available at => yourForumUrl/misc.php?action=help&hid=3 ),
close the browser, reopen it & check login process again for updating.
Still not working...
Error was related to FireFox, Working now.

I think I had same problem before, try checking the board url under site details settings. Make sure you have the correct address, it is www sensitive and I got the same behaviour time ago... That's how I solved the problem...
