After I enter all of my information for my mailgun(free mail service LINK HERE) STMP login and try to have the system send an email by a subscribed forum comment and I get this error:

Unable to connect to the mail server with the given details. Reason: 0: php_network_getaddresses: getaddrinfo failed: No such host is known.

can you attach a screen shot of SMTP settings from MyBB configuration?

Try to change the port to 587 as SMTPS support 587 and STARTSSL supports 465. Hope it helps you out.
