Hello there,
First off: thank you for the awesome work you guys and gals are doing in this community. You have bailed me out more than a couple of times in the past and this is a first post for me. Although I have done a few installations of MyBB and still actively maintain those, I am not a guru, so please pardon me if I ask stupid questions.
Background:
We are running a small forum to render support for a Government-endorsed software solution for South African Schools. The solution is free.
MyBB Version Information:
Upgraded from 1.8.7 to 1.8.8 a week ago. The upgrade went down, seemingly, with no trouble at all.
Problem Description:
Forum works fine, all icons and images appear, except on the User CP: only the PM icons are broken and the alt text are displayed instead.
Solutions tried:
Forum: http://sasams.co.za/forum
Images: http://sasams.co.za/forum/images
Inbox: Problem URL #1: http://sasams.co.za/forum/private.php?fid=1
Sent Items: Problem URL #2: http://sasams.co.za/forum/private.php?fid=2
Drafts: Problem URL #3: http://sasams.co.za/forum/private.php?fid=3
Trash Can: Problem URL #4: http://sasams.co.za/forum/private.php?fid=4
Which got me thinking that the problem might be with my private.php instead, so I uploaded the version 1.8.7 private.php and it seemed to work fine. Uploaded the 1.8.8 private.php again, and it broke again. SO, I am back on the 1.8.7 version of private.php, running 1.8.8 - which isn't feasible.
Questions:
1. Is there something amiss in the 1.8.8 private.php file, or did I somehow go wrong during the install? Not expecting anybody to be Clairvoyant, but someone with more experience might know how I somehow managed to muck the install up.
2. Can I retain the 1.8.7 private.php file until the next release? I'm not comfortable with fixing one thing and possibly breaking another/several others.
3. Any suggestions as to how I can be a hundred percent sure that everything is ship-shape. e.g. can I attempt to run the install again, or is that looking for trouble on the DB side of things?

Solutions tried:
- Checked to see that the corresponding images are indeed in the images folder;
- Edited the images with graphics editing software to make sure it's not corrupted;
- Uploaded the images folder again
