I'v literally tested each shoutbox I could, but none seem to work properly and I really need to have this function for my members. I've followed all the steps exactly, but it seems a lot of them don't really work well with the current release.

Could anyone please help me out? I'm a recovering vbulletinist and want to make the switch as easy as possible for the members. 

I added shoutbox before some hours in 1.8 be sure u followed correct the steps to install it.

what is your forum url & which php version is used to run the forum (shown at admin panel home page)

How don't they work well? Could you please elaborate on exactly what your issue is please?
