i just downloaded all the files again, this time i have the inc/ folder.
i re-uploaded all of them, followed the instructions in the 'upgrade wiki' and am getting the above error message.
my config.php must be right because ive never had problems with it in the past.

Your MySQL server has gone donwn - you'll either need to contact your web host or wait for them to fix it.

is this my fault or something to do with my host?

i think the SQL is your host now you have the right files in your ftp

yeh ive uploaded all the right files... but now the f-ing server goes down! just my bloody luck!
