I hate to post this here, however it's a proper question and it's related directly to the merge system

I own a rather big community, and the software we are using is SMF 2.0.12.- My question is whether a merge will "overwrite" existing database entries with new prefixes, or will it create new ones (not touching old data) ? 

I don't want to end up re-configuring my smf setup, with downtime. Of course I'll do a backup, but I am curious about this. Really want to jump over to MyBB as it seems to be more suitable for my users needs.

MyBB Merge System doesn't do anything to earlier database.
data from earlier database is used to append in MyBB forum's database.

it'd be better to put your SMF forum offline so that MyBB Merge
System can access its data without any (possible) interruptions

Thanks for the fast reply.

I took precautions and backed up everything. I'll proceed now as I know it's doing it that way.
I also shut down the SMF while the process is running
