I have been working Admin Side with this issue, a file verification shows some file issues.
- inc/datahandlers/post.php
- inc/functions_forumlist.php
Upon reverting these back to the originals the same issue occurred on multiple themes.
I have at the moment advised to attempt a fresh installation of MyBB.

Have you tried giving the username style a class instead and then add that class to global.css?
