Hello,

In my forum users are allowed to post threads, but they are approved by default and so anyone can see and post in them. Therefore the problem is that moderators do not know that someone posted something.
Is there a way to change the default status of a new thread to "unapproved" by default (same with posts)?

I found this old thread: https://community.mybb.com/thread-63589.html but I can't find this setting.

I am using mybb in version 1.8.10: http://www.bohemio.de/forum

You need to go under Forum Permissions for the forum you are editing. Click the Edit Permissions link and under the Moderation tab you'll find what you are looking for.

Home » Forum Management » select forum name » Permissions » choose group » Set Custom Permissions »  Moderation »  Moderate new threads?
You tick that and you'll need to moderate all new threads, you can also check Moderate new posts? which will also moderate new posts to threads.

I thought this section would mean, that this group can moderate the specified item, not that it has to be moderated for this group.
Now it works! :-)
