Make it so users can upvote and downvote threads instead of rating system.

This would effectively turn MyBB into a platform such as Reddit. I doubt we need any sort of thread voting mechanic for MyBB.

There is one plugin for MyBB 1.6 series related to post rating,

It might work for you after compatibility change.

He wants something that can upvotes downvote threads not individual posts. This way when sorting based on rating it'll show threads with the most thumbs up instead of 5-stars.

Something I'd do is edit the rating template, get a thumbs up icon and wrap it with the 5-star href and get a thumbs down and wrap it with a 1-star href. There is also a variable to show how many votes it's gotten so you can display that next to the upvote/downvote to show the total number of votes.

If I find the time I'll do a tutorial. It won't require a plugin just a few template edits in forumdisplay and showthread to the existing rating system.

At the minute we have no plans to keep thread ratings at all. Instead, we will just have the ability to like individual posts, with likes for the first post in a thread possibly being displayed in forum display and elsewhere that thread ratings are currently used.

thread ratings are kind of blah..I remove them from all of the forums I manage.
