hi there,

suggested this for 2.0 already, but i don't see why it shouldn't be added for 1.8 too.

It would be nice to have an option in group settings to disallow links in posts (detects subject too), with the option that if they reach x posts that restriction gets lifted. Where "x posts" would be definied by the adminstrator and 0 is default.

E.g. unless you have 3 total posts, you can't post any links in the forum.

The main reason i am suggesting this is because i received a lot of spam the previous months and a lot of spam preventions didn't help (including mybb inbuilt stuff) until i added added a plugin that disallows "http://" for an users first post. The plugin is not optimal since it just redirects you to "no permission" page and doesn't give you a reason why (now imagine normal users would use a link on their first post, whatever and their post would be just gone). None the less, bots still register, like 2 per day, but they aren't able to post anymore, which solved the issue for me in general.

So i am proposing that a well made function for 1.8, would be a great addition that adminstrators could make use of.

E.g. an error message (jgrowl) that you cannot post unless you remove the http://.
Seconded, should be a core feature IMO. Implementation should be different though, in keeping with the usergroup permissions relating to posting images/video/bbcode/etc. Usergroup permissions should include an option that either allows or disallows a user from posting links if they're a member of that usergroup. It's on the site administrator to make a sort of "new member" usergroup with restricted permissions like this, and you should automatically promote your users to regular member status once they reach X posts. Once they hit X posts the new usergroup they're promoted to should be allowed to post links.
I updated an old plugin for MyBB 1.4.* and 1.6.* to work with MyBB 1.8.* that does exactly this.

Download and instructions can be found here: https://dev.x-null.net/own3mall/mybb-no-links-allowed
This is such an important thing. It can cut down the spam we receive by many folds. Please make it to the core of 1.8.x and all future versions.
I've installed the plugin by own3mall above, but it doesn't block links in the subject line, should it ?
Do not know the link does not take particle.
Very cool and works very efficiently, I do not know if there is anything similar, but it is forbidden to add links and emails in private messages
No, it does not.
I'll soon add this function in ABP Restrict URL

The add-on is very cool, and we will wait for the new one, if it is possible to prevent adding email and phone numbers

Phone numbers are nightmares, they depends on coutry and notation. I won't add them yet.

New version now blocks PM and emails containing URL.
