So I go to install 1.8.12 and it just gives a 500 error, I try upgrading from 1.8.11 it gives a 500 error but installing 1.8.11 everything is perfectly fine. 

So I think MyBB dev team may have mistakenly got permissions incorrect on files.

can you check latest entries of server error log (if they exist at web host control panel) to find the cause ..

No error logs exist.

please contact your web host - they should be having the error logs.
