Ever since the upgrade to 1.8.12 MyAlerts has been doing this, showing the span code. Any idea how to get rid of that?

Thanks mate - worked like a charm. I like the notification number in brackets in the tab bar. Is there any way to make My Alerts work in real time, so when someone replies or comments, you get a notification without refreshing or going to another page?

Not in the current version I'm afraid, no.

You think it would be something for a future version? I guess I am making a request.

Possibly. It's been asked for several times, but implementing it in a way that will work across hosts and setups without causing performance issues might be challenging.
