I'm aware of the -G33K- plugin and a similar one by Nickman that posts a welcome message on the index page. However, both appear to be nonfunctional with 1.8, unfortunately!

I'm just looking for something that can send a PM to users when they activate their account. Are there any current ones that will work with 1.8? We're running 1.8.11.

Something that creates a banner or something similar would work, too.

Probably a week old to respond but you can use the below plugin by changing compatibility in welcomepm.php in inc/plugins/ to 18*

It is an amazing plugin by -G33K- which still does the job

It worked on 1.8.11 too but I would recommend you update to 1.8.12
