Good evening, I would like to create a "NEWS SECTION" such as that of this site.

it seems to me that the NEWS are nothing but simple threads
but the question is: how do I get a similar result?

can't say that a plugin is available for above requirement.

MyBB Portal page already has latest threads display (see example here)
that can be modified to change its display

probably my latest question fits in here quite well.

Is there any function that i can establish a MOTD (message of the day) like in most Unix-Systems ? Best would be a popup box that appears once after the login.

Is there a plugin i can tweak that way ?

If not, is there a way to learn how to do such a thing ?
As much as i understand i have to learn 4 things:
1) create a popup window
2) let different messages appear randomly
3) find the point in code that initiates the window right after login
4) make this thing configurable in user-cp

sounds a lot for a beginner
