What's the best and easiest way? I use the ordinary theme and I don't want to change it. It would be nice it if it was optimized for mobile though.
Honestly you’d have to redesign the theme to be mobile friendly, without edits it will not be.
Which theme are you using currently ?

I think at the moment there isn't an "easy" way to do it. You have options like installing a responsive theme which may or may not have good plugin compatibility.

Then you will never be mobile friendly because default MyBB is anything but mobile ready.

It's unfortunate that a great forum software like this isn't mobile friendly. I hope they work on it in the future.

I was hoping that there would be a plugin at least but the only plugin I found hasn't been updated since 2014.

I'm using the default theme, like this forum
Just go to extend -> themes and find some responsive theme.

Developement of this version of MyBB started few years ago, so it is not mobile friendly yet, but next version (1.10 for sure, if not before) is going to be mobile friendly.
I'm personally working on a theme that is mobile friendly and similar to the default theme but it is in development mode right now.
