Is there a way to install a theme upgrade without losing my CSS modifications?

new version of the theme can be installed with a different name;
style sheets can be compared later through forum admin panel [open in different tabs .. etc] ...

or your version of theme xml file can be exported ;
it can be compared with new version xml file by using a code editor
& required changes can be done through forum admin panel
