hi

on importing the zip that i downloaded from here, 

i get 

The following errors were encountered:

• MyBB could not find the theme with the file you uploaded. Please check the file is the correct and is not corrupt.
  

what's the problem?

on MyBB 1.8.14

i just tried another theme's zip-- same problem.

Is the themes directory writeable? Check it by going to: ACP >> Tools & Maintenance.
You can find it at the bottom of the page, should look like this.

yes, i see "All of the required files and directories have the proper CHMOD settings."
and themes dir says "writable"

are you importing the zip file itself for theme installation ?
theme's xml file should be imported for installing the theme.

please see this theme installation guidance

i solved this. I believe i was not importing correctly.
you have to upload everything in the "Upload" folder to matching folders on the server.
