I feel that for 1.10 for it to truly stand out a RESTful API will be required (JSON), this will put MyBB 1.10 in a whole new league all together.

I endorse this. A REST API will permit easier integration into third-party systems (creation of apps, etc), and a new (I'd go so far as to say secure) way of developing plugins.

I think that it would be nice but I guess it would require a lot of work so maybe best to leave it for MyBB 2.0?
