it would seem like it should be in the core, an option to enable/disable setting all newly registered  users to read all threads by default without them having to click mark all threads read every time a new user joins. They could care less about thousands of threads before they arrived. And they surely are not going to go through them one by one.

and in my case they even have the number of unread threads in their tab

Yeah, it could be quite useful. But it will be nice to have ability to turn off that option.

Yeah thats what spurred this thought. I was going to post it on that thread, but seemed like this would be more appropriate as it was a request to add that change in the core.
