The current vanilla MyBB announcement functionality is quite weak. I understand that there are things like advertisements that people might want to switch in and out, but that is way more customized than general MyBB would need. However i think that this announcement plugin should be in the core.

1. you can switch it on or off without deleting it.
   
2. customize it for any usergroup
   
3. show in index or globally
   
4. Colors and bordersand other custom CSS arguments
   
5. scrolling text
   
6. hide-able option
   

All of which mybb default announcements are lacking. The only addition that would be nice is the ability to put in specific forums like mybb default announcements. But if i had to choose either or, i would choose this plugin as its customization is much more than default mybb.

And it would make sense to have detailed announcements in MyBB that allow such customization.

Also somewhere i read that you use default MyBB here at community.mybb.com to show off mybb in its vanilla form. Its kind of misleading that here at mybb.com there are announcements in the index that have background and customized text that changes every so often. But you cant really do that in mybb without editing the templates. This plugin could easily replicate those banners without hardcode changes to the templates. New users would assume that there must be some simplified method to creating such banners, but then they find out they have to code html to get it, where this plugin walks them through it.

I don't think announcements are widely used enough to expand the feature. Way more important things to do.

I can see the following being nice additions to the announcements functionality:

• Enabled/disabled
  
• Show notification (globally, forum, etc) - pretty much how the pm notification works.
  

That would make the current announcements feature a little more attractive instead of writing a whole feature which is currently well achieved via third party.

Yeah the on/off switch seems vital. There should be an option to either on/off/set time like it is now. I wouldnt even use the latter. Yeah those are the most essential. I would have to add in the usergroup option as then you can select which usergroups see which announcements. But other than that the rest is flair that is not required.
