Hello, I have managed to get this far, but cannot for the life of me get it to line up properly, any suggestions on how to fix this?

This happened because of float. A clearfix after or negative top margin to floated link items can help, but can not suggest something certain unless physically investigate and for that a link to your site is required.
Edit: you can also try to put your link items before username and logout link with float:right; sometimes this helps without aligning the items vertically with negative margin.
