I did as it told me, uploaded to a directory called install, deleted the settings file...

NOTHING I do will make the upgrade.php work.... updating to the latest version from the previous one.

My forum isn't that old.

contents of upload named folder from the new version pack
should be uploaded to main folder of your MyBB files server.

then visit yourForumURL/install/upgrade.php to run upgrading process.

Yes thanks. I used myBB ages ago and loved it, but I've forgotten more than I remember.
