I want to disable Friendly Redirect Pages which I already know how to do but in place of the redirect page I want a box to appear and show the successful message because I noticed it doesn't show that example if you update your profile and click save I want it to display a box saying "Your profile has been successful updated" on the top of the page at this time it just takes you back to the top with no message or anything.

If it comes to 'appear' then AJAX is your friend. trigger integrated jGrowl.

You can write a javascript and include in template that will disable default submit ( return false; ) and perform ajax call to a custom php having same function what profile update does.
