I am looking for a way to have my latest threads as like a news layout on my index page.  Like this....

They have a hot right now section.  I would like to be able to include a picture also.

They have a very nice style for popular topics, my suggestion that you try Xthreads plugin. It can give you exact results
(You need to write your own templates for Xthreads)
