I customized the Flatty theme to my liking but whenever I tried to upload it 
A potential security issue was found in the theme. It was not imported. Please contact the Author or MyBB Group for support.

I noticed it doesn't give the error ( but messes up the theme ) if I uncheck Import Templates. I already have all the files for it uploaded to the server.

Probably you messed up some code in the XML. I suppose you tried to modify the theme XML directly ?

My suggestion is to upload the original copy of the theme and make your changes in templates.

Edit: The problem was I changed bburl to my actual url and it messed things up
